Most would agree that the beauty industry can be quite a fickle field to play in. Trends come and go, and products change often. The companies that succeed are able to maintain their presence, creativity and the wow factor.
Doe Deere’s Lime Crime cosmetics brand is one of the beauty business success stories, and to have achieved that blast of fame through e-commerce is no easy feat. Selling beauty products online is almost impossible because the buyer cannot touch the lipsticks and eyeshadows in person or see their texture.
Lime Crime has found a way to build a brand, and Doe Deere understands the brilliance and benefits of social media and communicating with fans on a global basis.
The Russian-born entrepreneur founded Lime Crime in 2008. Doe Deere had moved to New York City as a teen and got her feet wet in a few entrepreneurial pursuits before settling in the makeup field.
Doe Deere joined a band and met her husband there; she also ran her own Ebay clothing boutique. She enjoyed sharing her creative spirit and being her own boss. Since she already loved fashion, hair and cosmetics, she decided to embark on a unique beauty journey.
While living in the huge metropolis of New York, Doe Deere was surprised that there was very little of the makeup she enjoyed putting on. She was all about the fun, sexiness, naughtiness and glittery glam of bright, fantastical cosmetics.
In Doe Deere’s world, makeup was meant to be playful and a rule-breaker. It didn’t matter what kooky shade you wore, it was yours, your definition of beauty and meant to be applied any time of the day. There were no apologies because the cosmetics didn’t have to follow society’s rules handed down from the giant cosmetics brands.
Lime Crime was makeup that played outside the lines in colorful palettes women had never tried on before. Lime Crime offered a rainbow’s delight in blue lipstick or orange, metallic gold, gray, yellow, etc.
Doe Deere loved wearing what her brand put out, but she wasn’t sure how the world would respond. Learn more: http://limecrime.tumblr.com/
She had tapped into a unique makeup market that the famous brands ignored for decades. Lime Crime had found its niche in modern, wildly-colored cosmetics. Doe Deere had hit her stride, and the company continues to maintain its sharp edge.
LimeCrimeMakeup at Instagram boasts more than 3.2 million followers. Today, the company is located in Los Angeles, California.
