Jamaica is a country blessed with many musicians whose mostly preach love and peace; everybody expects that it is probably the best place to be. The country is enriched with powerful cultures most of them connected to the white people.
Gareth Henry held different opinions concerning gay rights over time. He had defended the gay rights since 2000 when he became an activist; the Jamaican culture does condemn the acts, and such actions are not condoned there.
Becoming an activist amidst people with such cultures brought him a lot of trouble. In 2007, Gareth Henry was all over in the international headlines after he was brutally beaten by policemen who joined the mob after they found the crowd beating the Badminton star. That was not the only time that he saw himself in the hands of the police officers and all that hit the headlines like before.
He thought that his efforts would help the gay to be treated as equals. However, this was never the case. In the process, he faced hate and death threats from the public who were against him and his activities. Other activists such as Brian Williamson were brutally killed, and this threatened Gareth Henry even more.
